From the Luther Physics Department
- On Oct 31, 2009, the Luther Physics department will be hosting a visit day. This will provide prospective students an opportunity to learn about the Physics program at Luther, as well as get a hands-on introduction to student-faculty research done within the department.
- Six students were on campus doing research with Luther Physics faculty during summer
2009.
- Jim Perez is on sabbatical through the end of fall 2009.
- The Physics department moved back into the newly renovated east wing of Valders Hall of Science during January 2009. More information and pictures coming soon!
- Congratulations to Krista Morris, winner of the 2009 Herman Ellingson prize going to the outstanding
junior majoring in physics. In addition to doing top-notch work in the classroom, Krista has worked with Associate Professor Jim Perez studying .
- Andrea
Schiefelbein was named runner-up in the competition for Rossing Physics Scholars for 2008-09. The award comes from the Thomas D. Rossing Fund for Physics Education Endowment within the ELCA Foundations. Good work Andrea.
- Associate
Professor Jeff Wilkerson was named the 2008 Janet Anderson Lecture Award winner
by the Midstates Consortium for Math and Science, established by the PEW
Charitable Trusts. He will present a
keynote address at the Physical Sciences and Mathematics Undergraduate Research
Symposium held Oct. 31 – Nov. 2 at Washington University in St. Louis.
- Assistant Professor Erin Flater was awarded a National Science Foundation grant with a total award amount of $199,921. This collaborative grant will provide faculty and student salaries for the next three summers for researchers at Luther College, St. Olaf College, and Auburn University.
